“Hallucinating at the Velvet Lounge”

Using cornbread as his poetic platform Michael Warr delivers “Hallucinating at the Velvet Lounge,” an ode to black history, art, music, and culture. The poem’s title is a reference to the legendary Jazz club The Velvet Lounge located in Chicago, IL, where Warr Lived for 25 years.

Michael Warr performs the poem with Todd Brown, who produced the music and plays guitar, Aaron Kierbel on drums, and Prasant Radhakrishnan on saxophone.

For those of you who want to read the poem get a copy of his book of poems The Armageddon of Funk. It is widely available online and if you are in the Bay Area you can find it at the Museum of the African Diaspora in San Francisco.
